Hyundai is known for its tradition to facelift its Sonata line three years after the release of the first model in every generation. As the first model of its seventh-generation Sonata car was released in 2015, we can expect that this model will receive a fresh facelift in 2018. The latest generations of this mid-size car sell quite well within the US and even more successfully after Hyundai introduces its patented Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. The facelift that will be done to current-generation model is expected to further boost the line’s market approval.

According to the CEO of Hyundai’s US Division, the facelift will focus on changing the front fascia of the car. Therefore, while we can expect that the facelifted model will feature fresh and innovative frontage (including new grille, bumper and headlights), the side and back faces of the car will mostly remain the same. Some improvements that are yet to be announced by Hyundai may also be introduced to the car’s interior.

The facelift of every generation of Sonata is known to introduce new improved engine. We can also expect the 2018 model to introduce new engine, though the engine might not necessarily be more powerful than that of the current model due to Hyundai’s campaign to improve its cars’ eco-friendliness. While the basic version may still use the 2.4-liter 185-HP inline four-cylinder engine, the eco-friendly version may feature 1.6-L 178-HP turborcharged engine with GDI technology. Though weaker, the new engine offers better fuel efficiency level up to 28 miles per gallon on city roads.

2018 Hyundai Sonata Release Date And Price

The release date of the facelifted 2018 Hyundai Sonata has yet to be announced by Hyundai, but we can expect it to appear in international car shows starting from the second semester of 2017. Given the fact that mid-size car segment of the automobile market is among the most competitive, we can expect that the price of the facelifted model will not increase. The standard trim should be tagged at about $22,000, just like the current model.
